Mixing reggaeton and pop music was released in the year 2017 by singer from Puerto Rico Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee. The song became the most-streamed at that period within a span of 6 months. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish by 2016 compared to just two songs in 2015. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna joined forces with Maluma for Medellin in the year 2019. A few performers of reggaeton have criticized the shift to popular music by 2020. A new band, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. It was often associated with electronic dance and other styles.
